October 2nd to 4th - Class 8.1 work

Hello

This is the first official blog in terms of classroom work that should be completed. Monday - took up Minds on Math, Order of Operations, pages 25 - 28, # 1-12. (only 5 students with homework completed - all else stayed in at lunch). We are looking to improve on this greatly as Class Time plus a little homework = success! From here we worked on pages 29 - 32, #1-6 which I will be marking today on Using Models to Solve Equations. Thursday and Friday will be pages 34 - 39, # 1 - 11 on Using Algebra Tiles to Solve Equations. (Students also had their first test last Friday, which I am continuing to finish with a few this week). Spelling is Lesson 4 - Dictionary on Monday, Sentences on Tuesday, Exercises on Wednesday and Thursday (due Friday) and Dictation on Friday. Students need to study for Friday dictation and make sure all work is kept up weekly. Our novel study, The Outsiders, is going well. We are up to Chapter 7 with questions and activities that follow. For Language Power, students should finish Lessons 10-12 by Friday. Finally, we will be continuing to finish our Autobiographies on Thursday, as students are learning how to do a Powerpoint presentation which they will present to the class. I will be updating this blog almost nightly, so please use this as an extra tool. Thanks Mr. Hickey.

Hey 8-1 class!
i'm looking forward to seeing those autobiographies in power point! What an awesome opportunity. You are all very lucky to have Mr. Hickey as your homeroom teacher, enabling you do such a cool activity.

Too bad you have to put up with all the Sabres propaganda, though.

Maybe we can get some sort of art credit for the use of creative computer design. Remember, the principles and elements of design apply to ALL creative work, even power point presentations.
